In Kazakhstan, support for domestic producers will be strengthened: retail chains will be required to ensure the presence of Kazakhstani goods on store shelves, while products will be marked with the “Made in Kazakhstan” label, reports Inbusiness.kz. The announcement was made by Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliyev at a government meeting.

Under the current legislative measures, at least 50% of shelf space must be allocated to domestic food products and at least 30% to non-food products. In addition, further amendments have been prepared that would establish a mandatory share of Kazakhstani goods in each product category.

Domestic products are planned to be placed on the most in-demand shelves in retail outlets and identified with special “Made in Kazakhstan” labeling. The measures also provide for dedicated shelves for new producers and so-called “green shelves.” Similar requirements are planned to be applied to Kazakhstani e-commerce platforms.

The minister also emphasized that retail chains are prohibited from unjustifiably refusing to enter into supply agreements with domestic producers.

The new measures are intended to increase the presence of Kazakhstani goods in modern retail and expand opportunities for local producers to enter major retail chains and online marketplaces.
