The two largest shopping malls in Kazakhstan - Dostyk Plaza and Shymkent Plaza - have successfully passed the OMIR green building standard certification.

Almaty, Kazakhstan - The Dostyk Plaza and Shymkent Plaza shopping and entertainment centres became the first projects in Almaty and Shymkent to receive the OMIR Gold Certificate, a green building standard developed by the Kazakhstan Green Building Council (KazGBC). The award ceremony was held on 31 October in Almaty with live participation of the shopping mall team in Shymkent.

Both centres are owned by the REIT TSPG investment fund and represent a prime example of the successful integration of green technologies, sustainable design principles and responsible building management. The results of the OMIR environmental assessment certification confirm the company's commitment to sustainability: the certification covers key criteria such as energy conservation, health, transport accessibility, building management, water efficiency and leadership.

OMIR's certification was made possible through the co-ordinated work of REIT TSPG, Bureau Veritas Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan Green Building Council. The ceremony also included the unveiling of green labelling of the buildings in Almaty and Shymkent, symbolising the high achievements of the mall.

KazGBC - Kazakhstan Green Building Council is non-profit association of legal entities established in 2014 to facilitate the transition of Kazakhstan's construction industry to the principles of sustainable development.  KazGBC is a member of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) and exclusively represents the global green building movement in Kazakhstan. In 2015-2017. KazGBC developed Kazakhstan's green building assessment system ‘OMIR’. This system allows certification of residential, office, retail, educational buildings, warehouses and includes relevant assessment standards.
