Uzbekistan's Retail Trade Turnover Increased by 20.7% in the First Five Months
According to the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics, the country's retail trade turnover reached UZS 210.2 trillion in January–May 2026, marking a 20.7% increase in real terms compared to the same period last year.
As of June 1, Uzbekistan had 88,686 retail trade enterprises. Of these, 439 were large companies, while the remainder consisted of small businesses and microenterprises.
Small businesses continue to account for the largest share of retail trade turnover at 81.5%, while large enterprises make up 18.5%. Retail turnover among large companies increased by 25.6%, compared to an 18% increase for small businesses.
The highest retail trade growth rates were recorded in Tashkent, the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and the Syrdarya Region.
Wholesale trade also posts strong growth
Wholesale trade turnover totaled UZS 209.4 trillion during the first five months of the year, up 15.4% compared to the corresponding period of 2025.
More than 55,000 wholesale trade enterprises operate across the country. Small businesses account for 67.4% of total wholesale turnover, while large companies contribute the remaining 32.6%.
Food service sector continues to expand
The food service sector also maintained positive momentum. Between January and May, turnover in the industry reached UZS 94.4 trillion, representing an 11.1% increase in real terms.
At the beginning of June, Uzbekistan had 28,483 food service establishments in operation, with small businesses accounting for approximately 75% of the sector's total turnover.
The continued growth in retail and wholesale trade, as well as in the food service sector, reflects sustained business activity and the ongoing development of Uzbekistan's consumer market, according to UzDaily.uz.
